Stronger Together Hockey is built on three pillars that show students how they can be part of a team, on and off the ice.

Pillar I: Maple Pathways – Not Everyone Wears a Jersey

Not everyone wears a jersey and that’s where opportunity begins. Stronger Together Hockey introduces educational pathways linking hockey to learning, connecting the game to STEM concepts such as physics, data and analytics, along with storytelling, media, and civic engagement. Through school learning and activity packages, assemblies, presentations, and guest speakers, students explore how learning, creativity, and collaboration intersect with sport and community life.

Students survey the full ecosystem surrounding hockey, including:

  • Players, coaches, and trainers
  • Broadcasters, media, and storytellers
  • Analysts, data specialists, and strategists
  • Marketing, operations, and event professionals
  • Musicians, performers, and creative contributors
  • Community leaders and advocates

Teams succeed because of diverse roles working together.

Speaker Categories

  • Players and alumni
  • Media and content production
  • Analytics and performance science
  • Athletic therapy and training
  • Event operations and marketing
  • Community foundation representatives
  • Professional pathways

Maple Pathways Integration — Hockey becomes a bridge to:

  • Science (blade angles, physics of motion)
  • Math (statistics and analytics)
  • Media and digital production
  • Business and operations
  • Education-to-career journeys, including migrant and newcomer pathways

Awareness & Career Visibility

Interactive presentations (virtual or in-person) introduce students to roles across the hockey ecosystem, including players, alumni, media professionals, analytics staff, event operations, and community leaders. Maple Pathways integrates STEM, media, and business connections, reinforcing that contribution extends beyond playing. The message is simple: contribution takes many forms.

This Pillar brings tabletop hockey and collaborative classroom activities into schools as an accessible way to encourage strategic thinking, teamwork, active participation and improved fine motor skills. These hands-on experiences create opportunities for students to interact, play, and learn together while complementing classroom learning electronic device free. Teamwork in action, accessible to everyone.

Through structured tabletop hockey and classroom activities, students:

  • Practice strategy and decision-making
  • Build communication and collaboration skills
  • Develop leadership, respect, and accountability

Students also engage in:

  • Writing and storytelling challenges
  • Strategy and analytics activities
  • Creative and reflective learning

Because being part of a team is not about how you play — it’s about how you contribute.

Embedded Tabletop Engagement

Schools are seeking meaningful programming that builds belonging while offering hands-on alternatives to device-heavy routines. Pillar II introduces a low-barrier tabletop hockey platform embedded directly in schools. Each recognized school would receive one to two tabletop hockey games. The focus is ease of integration, minimal logistics, repeat use, and daily engagement.

This pillar emphasizes creativity, face-to-face interaction, strategic thinking, and cultural exploration. Programming may include hockey 101 educational sessions, tabletop hockey integration and competitions. This creates a progression:

Classroom
Tabletop
School Play
Community Engagement

Recognition Concepts (Low Cost, High Impact)

  • Class of Blue — legacy patches students can wear on jerseys
  • Three Generations, One Team — storytelling initiative celebrating family and migration journeys (“Tell Your Hockey Story” entry for game access draws)
  • School Banners — recognition for community contribution and tabletop champions

Community grows when everyone has access to participate. This Pillar supports equipment redistribution and local partnerships that create pathways to skating, recreational play, volunteering, and community events — broadening opportunities for students.

Schools may:

  • Organize equipment drives
  • Support newcomer and community access initiatives
  • Promote inclusive recreational opportunities

Students learn that strong communities are built through:

  • Inclusion
  • Shared experience
  • Supporting others

Because being part of a team also means helping others.

Pillar III supports the transition from introduction to deeper engagement within hockey and its surrounding landscape. Participation in hockey may include traditional play, adaptive formats such as para, sledge, or blind hockey, recreational leagues, or community-based programming. This pillar ensures that students who develop interest through school programming have visible, supported pathways forward.

Components may include supporting existing programs with:

  • Equipment collection and redistribution initiatives
  • Introductory on-ice or adaptive experiences
  • Partnerships with community and newcomer-serving organizations
  • Exposure to recreational and adaptive hockey programs
  • Participation tracking to support sustained connection

Equipment Redistribution Model — Core Components

  • School-led equipment collection drives
  • Redistribution through vetted community partners
  • Alignment with newcomer-serving agencies
  • Tracking of equipment circulation and engagement
  • Explore equipment and introductory skate pathways that create measurable bridges from school engagement to community ice access

At its core, Stronger Together Hockey helps students understand that you don’t have to wear a jersey to be part of the team.

Through engaging school experiences, students discover that teams are built not only by players but by thinkers, creators, analysts, storytellers, performers, and community leaders. Grounded in three key ideas—Hockey, Connection, and Community the program encourages students to:

“The program helps students see how connection and community can shape opportunity both inside and beyond sport. Hockey is the lens but the lesson is universal everyone has a place, and every contribution matters. In doing so, the initiative creates opportunities where students gain confidence, discover new interests, and engage more fully in the life of their schools and communities, becoming Stronger Together.”
