Connection to community — both culturally and practically — is essential:

  • Students are seeking connection
  • Schools are looking for structured, meaningful programming
  • Communities are focused on inclusion and belonging

How It Works — Our model creates a clear pathway:

Classroom
Tabletop
School Engagement
Community

Each step builds familiarity, confidence, and participation.

Recognition & Engagement

Students and schools are recognized for participation, contribution, and leadership:

Class of Blue
Legacy / Sixth Player Recognition
Three Generations, One Team
Maple Legacy
School Banners and Certificates

Recognition reflects how students contribute to hockey, connection, and community.

Through hockey, students build connection. Through connection, they build community. And in every school, every classroom, and every experience — you don’t have to wear a jersey to be part of the team.

Stronger Together: Lessons from Hockey, Connection and Community

Stronger Together: Lessons from Hockey, Connection and Community is an education-first program that uses hockey as a lens to explore teamwork, connection, and inclusive community participation. Through structured school engagement and interactive learning activities, the program highlights how the values surrounding sport, collective effort, curiosity, creativity, and collaboration can support educational development while encouraging students to engage with one another through meaningful participation.

Grounded in three interconnected concepts hockey, connection, and community, the program uses hockey as a visible example of teamwork and engagement both on and off the ice. Connection reflects how individuals engage with the people and environments around them in their own way, bringing their interests, perspectives, and strengths into group activities and everyday life. Community emphasizes inclusive spaces where individuals learn, participate, and support one another.

Connection reflects how individuals engage with people and environments in their own way, while community emphasizes inclusive spaces where individuals learn, participate, and support one another.

The initiative operates through three complementary pillars.

Pillar I: Maple Pathways

Introduces educational pathways linking hockey to learning, connecting the game to STEM concepts such as physics, data and analytics, along with storytelling, media, and civic engagement. Through school assemblies, presentations, and guest speakers, students explore how learning, creativity, and collaboration intersect with sport and community life.

Pillar II: Mini Rinks, Big Dreams

Brings tabletop hockey and collaborative classroom activities into schools as an accessible way to encourage strategic thinking, teamwork, active participation and improved fine motor schools. These hands-on experiences create opportunities for students to interact, play, and learn together while complementing classroom learning.

Pillar III: Skates On, Spirits Up!

supports equipment redistribution and local partnerships that create pathways to skating, recreational play, volunteering, and community events broadening opportunities for students.

In doing so, the initiative creates opportunities where students gain confidence, discover new interests, and engage more fully in the life of their schools and communities, becoming Stronger Together.

“I’ll never forget our first school visit. Many students weren’t familiar with hockey, and I didn’t know what to expect. Then I asked for questions and over 300 hands went up.

That’s when it became clear the power of Stronger Together Hockey to fuel connection and community, showing students, they have a place whether they wear a jersey or not. I knew right then I wanted to help take it into as many schools as possible because that kind of spark can change how students see themselves and where they’re going.” Mike Wilson
